• Tree companies

• Landscapers offering “tree trimming”

• Lawn crews with chainsaws

• Handyman-style operations

Many of them may offer low pricing — but pricing is only one part of risk.

Most property owners assume:

“If they have an insurance certificate, I’m protected.”

Unfortunately, that’s often not true.

Many companies carry basic landscaper-style liability coverage, which may only apply up to certain working heights (often around 12 ft) and may not include real tree removal operations.

Even worse, many insurance certificates don’t clearly state whether the company is covered for:

• Tree removal

• Climbing

• Rigging

• Work above 12 ft

• Crane work

• Bucket truck operations

What this means for you

Two companies can show you certificates that look the same…
…but one may be properly insured for tree work and the other may not.

Another surprise for homeowners:

Florida tree care often operates under rules where workers comp may not be mandatory, even for large crews, because it may be treated as “non-construction.”
